Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership 2023

The Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership program for 2023 is based at the Potchefstroom store in the North West province. Its primary objective is to recruit capable and qualified individuals who can successfully complete the basic pharmacy assistant learner course. As a Dispensary Support learner, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles that govern various aspects of the pharmaceutical environment, particularly dispensing.

Upon acceptance to the South African Pharmacy Council as a basic pharmacist assistant, the Dispensary Support Learner will enter into a fixed-term contract with the potential for permanent employment. In the capacity of a registered Pharmacy Assistant in the Basic Learner category, your responsibilities will include:

  • Selling Schedule 1 medication or scheduled substances.
  • Assisting with manipulation, compounding, and preparation of scheduled substances and non-sterile medicine.
  • Assisting with stock unpacking, merchandising, cleaning OTC and dispensary shelves.
  • Undertaking additional tasks assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
  • Accurately interpreting prescriptions and maintaining a responsible and professional demeanor in adherence to SAPC’s legal requirements.
  • Verifying the accuracy of all medications and ensuring they are duly signed by a pharmacist.
  • Assisting with maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of packing shelves, monitoring expiry dates of Schedule 5 to 1 medication and controlled substances.
  • Communicating with patients on script tracking reports as requested.
  • Assisting with patient service phone calls and call centre scripting.
  • Promoting health by sharing information with the public.
  • Providing support with scheme authorization of HIV/AIDS, chronic, and oncology medication.
  • Reporting stock levels and errors.
  • Complying with company SOP when receiving dispensary stock.

Who should apply?

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess at least a Grade 12 / matric or Senior Certificate with Physical Science and/or Life Science, and Pure Mathematics, all with a 50% average.
  • Proficient in spoken, written, and reading English, as well as a second language.
  • Adhere to deadlines and effectively manage time under pressure.
  • Strong communication, listening, and customer service skills.
  • Exhibit honesty, trustworthiness, professionalism, and lead by example.
  • Good computer and numerical acumen.
  • South African citizen with no derogatory credit or criminal record.
  • Capable of passing the proficiency test to gain accreditation with the Pharmacy Council.

Preference will be given to applicants with the following credentials:

  • Work experience and a proven track record in front shop or FMCG (retail) positions.
  • Familiarity with family planning, complementary medicines, and drugs.
  • Operational experience in SAP, E-Scipting, and Unisolv.
