Greece is officially the most stressed country in Europe, a new study reveals

The study, conducted by the experts at CBDCBDolie.nle looked at European countries in the following categories to find out the most stressed countries on the continent:

  • Depression prevalence estimated the share of the population who had depressive disorders in the past year, whether they were diagnosed or not.
  • Anxiety prevalence estimates the share of the population who have had anxiety disorders in the past year, whether they were diagnosed or not.
  • Reports on stress levels % of respondents who said they experience this feeling frequently.
  • Reports on levels of sadness % of respondents who said they frequently experience this feeling.
  • Reports of levels of enjoyment % of respondents who said they did not experience this feeling frequently.
  • Average weekly hours worked the average number of actual weekly hours worked per week for the 15-64 age group.

Each factor was then included in an index to create an overall stress score out of 100.

The study reveals that Greece is the most stressed country in Europe, with the highest stress score at 71.8 out of 100. Greece tops the list after scoring highly for both stress reports and the prevalence of depression. Greece has a prevalence of depression of 6.52%, the highest rate in Europe, as well as 57% of respondents reported frequent stress, the second highest rate of all European countries.

Turkey is the second most stressed country in Europe. Turkey ranked first in Europe for reports of high stress levels, with 64% of residents saying they often feel stressed. Turkey also ranked first in Europe for frequent feelings of sadness with 49% of respondents reporting feeling this way often. Malta and Cyprus are in fourth and fifth place respectively. Malta ranked highly due to high levels of weekly working hours (37.9) and high levels of frequent feelings of anxiety with 6.97% of respondents reporting as such. Overall, Malta receives a stress score of 51.4 out of 100. Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for CBDolie.nl said: The last five years have provided a constant source of uncertainty for many due to the rising cost of living, the pandemic and more, so it is not surprising to see that stress levels all over Europe I’m so tall.

This list highlights that across the continent people live in different situations when it comes to their lifestyles, but clearly some countries are more likely to cause their residents to have sleepless nights due to stress.

Stress can be reduced in numerous ways, ranging from small lifestyle changes to consultations with medical professionals, however, these findings offer fascinating insight into the geographical disparity across Europe when it comes to feelings of worry and stress.
